ARCHAEOLOGICAL CIVIC MUSEUM bologna

CIVIC ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

mesopotamia

The Civic Archaeological Museum of Bologna has been housed since 1881 in the fifteenth-century Palazzo Galvani and presents rich archaeological collections from the former University Museum, which resulted from the donation by the painter Pelagio Palagi and archaeological research conducted in the territory of the city and province of Bologna spanning the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Museum offers evidence from prehistoric times to the Roman era, and in particular, the Etruscan section is essential for understanding the Etruscan civilization of the Padania region, with its capital Felsina (the Etruscan name for present-day Bologna).

Absolutely worth seeing and not to be missed is the Egyptian collection, one of the most important in Europe.

Important restoration work will affect the Museum until mid-2019; however, the most interesting collections are still accessible.

HOKUSAI HIROSHIGE. Beyond the Wave.

hokusai beyond the wave

The exhibition HOKUSAI HIROSHIGE. Beyond the Wave. Masterpieces from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts presents, for the first time in Italy, an extraordinary selection of approximately 250 works from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

The 1830s marked the peak of ukiyoe production known as “images of the Floating World”.

During that period, the most important woodblock print series were created by the masters who would later, several decades later with the opening of the country, be confirmed as the greatest names of Japanese art in the West. Among them, Hokusai stood out immediately as an artist and personality outside the norm.

Twenty years after Hokusai, Hiroshige became a famous name in ukiyoe painting shortly after the release of the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji
