GRANAROLO EMIILIA - Bologna

GUIDE TO GRANAROLO DELL'EMILIA

Granarolo dell’Emilia is a town of 12,042 inhabitants in the province of Bologna.

As the burial sites discovered nearby attest, the first inhabitants of the area were the Villanovians, but remains from the Roman and Etruscan periods have also been found.

Given its location, the city of Bologna has long used this fertile territory as a "granary," or as an agricultural zone belonging to the city.

WHAT TO SEE AND WHAT TO DO IN GRANAROLO EMILIA

Very interesting is the Museum of Rural Civilization, just a ten-kilometer drive from Granarolo: in an exhibition space of over 2000 square meters, a permanent exhibition has been set up that highlights the importance that agriculture has had, and continues to have, for this land. The museum is divided into four sections, each dedicated to one of the fundamental crops grown here: the vine, wheat, rice, and hemp, as well as a vast display of agricultural tools and machinery from different eras.
Located right in the heart of what is known internationally as Motor Valley, Granarolo is truly the perfect place for all motor enthusiasts! Its roads are often the destination of motorcyclists and car enthusiasts looking for routes full of curves and breathtaking views, which have inspired many of the manufacturers of the most famous sports cars and motorcycles of all time. But beyond the big brands, here in Motor Valley one can also find some true gems, among which is the Pasquale Mesto Motorcycle Collection: named after its creator, this collection gathers many historical models of Italjet, a company founded by the Bolognese Leopoldo Tartarini, known also for having circumnavigated the world on his Ducati. The collection retraces the successes of Italjet, among which can certainly be counted many sports and trial motorcycles, some competition motorcycles, and also some prototypes. Interesting are some record-breaking models, such as the Record Cyclear 250, which in the 1970s set fantastic records on the Monza track. For those more interested in cars, just a short distance from Granarolo is the Ferruccio Lamborghini Museum, which retraces his life through a rich exhibition of his creations, accompanied by a notable photographic archive. The 9000 square meters of the Museum house the entire industrial production of Ferruccio Lamborghini, from the first Carloca tractor in 1947, to the most important car models of subsequent years, such as the Miura SV or the Urraco, but also the famous Fiat Barchetta Sport, modified in such a way as to be able to participate in the Mille Miglia in 1948. A small curiosity: did you know that the Espada, characterized by its gullwing doors, was the inspiration for the DeLorean, the car used in the film Back to the Future?

FAIRS AND EVENTS

Among the events that take place in Granarolo throughout the year, we remember VerdeVolo at the end of May, an opportunity to taste typical Emilian street food and more, for a weekend dedicated to flavor; while during Carnival, in mid-February, there is the characteristic parade of floats, with live music, street artists, and food and wine stalls.
