mast bologna

The MAST - MANUFACTURE OF ARTS, EXPERIMENTATION AND TECHNOLOGY is the project designed by one of the most important business realities in Italy, the COESIA - GD Group of Bologna, which through its Foundation intends to promote the development of creativity and entrepreneurship among the young generations to promote the economic and social growth of the territory.

The building that houses it develops into two bodies connected to three floors that welcome the exhibition space for permanent collections and temporary exhibitions and the various services provided by MAST.

Inside there are exhibition galleries, an auditorium, an academy, a kindergarten, a wellness center, a restaurant and a cafeteria while outside there is a sculpture park with various monumental pieces and important international sculptors such as Olafur Eliasson, Anish Kapoor , Arnaldo Pomodoro, Mark Di Suvero.

MOVING FOODS, MOVING PEOPLE
Images from the MAST Foundation's Collection

On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the opening of the eponymous cultural center, the MAST Foundation presents a new selection of works from its collection of photographs, video installations, and photo albums on the themes of industry and labor. Over 250 historical and contemporary images by 65 great authors from around the world –masters of international renown such as Robert Doisneau, David Goldblatt, Helen Levitt, and Mario De Biasi alongside younger talents including Richard Mosse, Ulrich Gebert, and Sonja Braas – focus on the genius and energy that over the last two centuries have driven people to design means and infrastructures to move goods, people, and data.
A multi-voiced reflection on the theme of speed that characterizes contemporary society, the exhibition, of which the pendulum is the visual metaphor, illustrates the opposing energies that arise from the two phenomena that dominate our present: on the one hand, the bursting force of engines, the enormous acceleration, the means of transport transformed into the fetish of our time, continuous connection as an absolute imperative, and on the other hand, the slowdown, the sudden brake, the blockage of the flows of people who migrate, the only barrier to the myth of global mobility.
