MINERBIO - Bologna
MINERBIO Travel Guide

Minerbio is a municipality of 8.770 inhabitants in the province of Bologna.
The origins of the village date back to Roman times, as evidenced by its name, which seems to derive from that of the goddess Minerva, given that here once stood a temple dedicated to her.
The first official document that speaks of Minerbio dates back to 1231, when the Podestà of Bologna gave 150 Mantuan families this territory.
In 1300 the noble Isolani family settled in Minerbio, originally from Cyprus, to whom we owe the construction of the Church of San Giovanni Battista, which was later defined as one of the most beautiful in the area.
In 1403 the Visconti family extended their possessions to include Minerbio.
what to see and what to do in MINERBIO
Walking through Minerbio, one can still notice its Roman structure, with the typical parallel streets of the castrum, while the medieval structure is still visible in the entrance gate to the village, with the tower, rebuilt in 1800.
Beautiful is the Church of San Giovanni Battista, from the end of the 1300s; inside one can see the interesting sculpture of the “Gloria,” by Giuseppe Mazza. Worth a visit are the Rocca Isolani, with interesting frescoes and its beautiful dovecote, recently restored;
and the Castle of the Manzoli, in Soverzano, from the 1400s, built around the ancient Tower of the Ariostis, from the thirteenth century. Despite being a noble residence, defensive aspects such as the towers, battlemented walls, and large internal courtyard are evident.
Very interesting is the Museum of Industrial Heritage, housed in an old brick kiln from the mid-1800s. The exhibition consists of five sections, where one can admire scientific instruments and silk production machinery, ranging from the oldest water-powered machines to modern mechanical and mechatronic ones. Obviously, given the setting, one of the sections is dedicated to kiln production processes, such as brick making.
FAIRS AND EVENTS
Various events take place in Minerbio: at the beginning of July, there is the Band Festival, which coincides with the Tagliatella Festival, an opportunity for music enthusiasts to listen to the Minerbio Band Corps, perhaps while enjoying a delicious plate of tagliatelle! At the end of October, during the San Martino dei Manzoli Fair in Soverzano, one can attend historical reenactments and falconry shows, all accompanied by live music and stalls of typical products.
