CHAGALL. DREAM AND MAGIC

An exhibition dedicated to the poetic magic of Marc Chagall.

Through the exhibition of 150 works including paintings, drawings, watercolors, and engravings, the show tells the life, work, and sentiment of Chagall for his ever-beloved wife Bella. A core of rare and extraordinary works, coming from private collections and thus difficult for the general public to access.

Curated by Dolores Duràn Ucar, the exhibition Chagall. Love Dream is divided into five sections that summarize all the themes dear to the artist: Russian tradition; the relationship with writers and poets; the sense of the sacred and the profound religiosity that reflect in the creations inspired by the Bible; the interest in nature and animals and reflections on human behavior; the world of the circus; and, of course, love, which dominates his works and gives meaning to art and life.

The Genius at War in the Age of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Dürer

Alongside plans and maps that propose inhabited centers, some charts with details of fortifications, of defensive and offensive devices, both executed by Leonardo’s hand and those of his contemporaries, will be displayed.
This will be the opportunity to highlight a conceptual and technological debt that Michelangelo and Dürer incurred with the engineers of the early Renaissance, as did Leonardo.
A journey to discover the experiences conducted on fortified structures from 1470 to 1530 and the innovative capacity of the engineers of the time that the visitor will be able to follow thanks to prestigious loans of originals from the libraries of Windsor, Milan, Florence and from Emilian State collections.

A Certain Number of Things

A project by Cesare Pietroiusti, curated by Lorenzo Balbi with the curatorial assistance of Sabrina Samorì, promoted by MAMbo, winner of the fourth edition of the Italian Council (2018) competition, conceived by the Directorate General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries (DGAAP) of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, to promote Italian contemporary art worldwide. The idea of the exhibition - the first anthological exhibition of the artist in a museum institution - begins with a reflection on the concept of retrospective and on the actual possibility of representing an artistic research path in this format. From this investigation emerges Cesare Pietroiusti's idea-provocation: to self-narrate not only through the works produced but also through objects, suggestions, episodes, gestures, actions, behaviors, memories related to his life, starting from the year of birth, 1955.
The exhibition path is structured in "year-objects" arranged in a non strictly chronological order. Starting from 1977, the objects move from the personal sphere to that of artistic activity, with works created over a span of forty years. The objects representing the years from 1955 to 2018 are arranged around the last year-object, related to 2019, located in the "ring" at the center of the room: it is a work in progress, which is realized thanks to a workshop conducted by Pietroiusti at MAMbo and at the Grazer Kunstverein in Graz (Austria). The workshop involves students and young artists with the aim of physically, performatively, and narratively reproducing the objects on display, in a co-authorship mode from the ideation phase. The 2019 year-object will be destined for Madre · Donnaregina Contemporary Art Museum in Naples.
Until January 6, 2020, every day except Monday.

ALESSANDRO GUARDASSONI (1819-1888). A Bolognese painter between Romanticism and devotion

In honor of the bicentenary of the birth of the Bolognese painter Alessandro Guardassoni (1819-1888), an itinerary has been promoted in the metropolitan city to highlight the artist’s work: from historical-romantic naturalism to a purist turn and then to the development of a devotional language, which made him the most important ecclesiastical painter in Bologna in the nineteenth century.
The exhibition at the Municipal Art Collections presents works by Guardassoni shown in official exhibitions and created for important commissions, narrating the evolution of his style, making it possible to compare him with other painters active in those years in Bologna and re-creating the cultural atmosphere through 40 paintings.

Simultaneously with the Gualandi Foundation, 60 preparatory drawings and sketches for the paintings created in the Bolognese churches are on display. A video, produced by students from the Department of Architecture at the University of Bologna’s Industrial Product Design program, shows visitors the relationship between the preparatory phases and the finished works, providing a virtual tour inside some of the churches where Guardassoni worked.

A map, distributed at the exhibition venues, allows visitors to easily reach the city churches and those in the surrounding area, where specific guided tours are organized by the Arte e Fede association.

ANTHROPOCENE

Anthropocene is an artistic project that investigates humanity's indelible mark on Earth through the extraordinary images of Edward Burtynsky, Jennifer Baichwal, and Nicholas de Pencier. Combining photography, film, augmented reality, and scientific research, the three artists create a visually impactful multimedia exploration documenting the changes caused by human activity on the planet and their effects on natural processes.

The project is a multimedia exploration documenting humanity's indelible mark on Earth: from the breakwaters constructed along the majority of China's coastlines to the colossal machines built in Germany, from the psychedelic potash mines in the Ural Mountains to the devastation of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, from the surreal lithium evaporation ponds in the Atacama Desert to the Carrara marble quarries and one of the world's largest dump sites in Dandora, Kenya.

Morandi-like

The poetic universe of Giorgio Morandi, with its complex compositional balances, inspires the contemporary design world once again. Within the fifth edition of Bologna Design Week, the Morandi Museum presents the Morandi-esque exhibition at the Casa Morandi venue. In the original studio-home where the master lived and worked from 1910 to 1964, nine of his still lifes are exhibited in 3D models. The initial development of the representations was realized through a workshop dedicated to the relationship between architectural techniques and Morandi's art, conceived and led in 2018 by Zaid Kashef Alghata, founder of House of ZKA, a platform for architectural research. The Morandi-esque exhibition, curated by House of ZKA, is organized by Istituzione Bologna Musei | Museo Morandi. The exhibition project is made possible thanks to the generous support of Tamkeen, Bahrain.

From December 1st Casa Morandi will be open by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays (h 14.00 – 16.00) and Sundays (h 11.00 – 13.00). Free admission.
To book call +39 051 6496611 (reservations accepted until h 13.00 on the Wednesday before the visit).
