CASALFIUMANESE  Travel Guide

Casalfiumanese is a village of 3.441 inhabitants in the province of Bologna. Its origins are ancient, dating back to the Bronze Age as evidenced by the finds dating from the 14th to the 10th century b.C. Around the year 1000 a castle was built, called Castrum Casale, on a small hill, so in a very defensible position, and the medieval structure is still recognizable today. Given its position, its history has been linked to the territorial struggles between Bologna and Imola. After the conquest by Cesare Borgia, Casalfiumanese took part for a long time of the Church.

what to see and what to do

It is worth visiting the Romanesque church of Rivera, the oldest building in the whole valley of Santerno river: dates back to the 14th century; the remains of the castle and bell tower of the ancient church of Fiagnano and Torre Pedriaghe, or Pieve di Sant'Andrea, with its 14 meter high tower.

In the area there are also 10 cycling routes, of various difficulties, called "Ciclovie del Parco". The Regional Park of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola is also worth a visit: in addition to a very rich flora and fauna, thanks to the particular microclimate of the area, you can find ancient remains of human settlements of various ages, for example the remains of the Castle of Rontana, on the summit of Mount Rontana. dating from 973, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view.
