MOLINELLA Travel Guide

Molinella is a town of 15,576 inhabitants in the province of Bologna.
The name probably derives from the large number of mills in the area and fundamental for the economy, while its origins can be traced back to the Villanovan civilization, but there are also evidence of Roman and Gallic settlements, even if the first document in which Molinella it’s mentioned dates back to 1322.
At the end of the thirteenth century there were fights between the Este family and the City of Bologna, until in 1500 Molinella became part of the Church. In 1630 it was hit by the plague, like many other areas of Northern Italy.
what to see and what to do in MOLINELLA - SELVA MALVEZZI

To be visited :
Walking through the historic center of Molinella one can’t help but notice the Bell Tower, next to the Church of S. Matteo, dating back to the fifteenth century and now used as an Auditorium. Is very beautiful the Tower of Santo Stefano, in front of the Auditorium: anciently used as a bell tower and then as a prison, it has recently been restored and now hosts exhibitions and theatrical events. It is worth getting to Selva Malvezzi, which has maintained its antique appearance and looks like a real feudal village of the fifteenth century, the ancient home of the homonymous noble family.
For lovers of outdoor activities, the road that leads to Selva Malvezzi crosses the Vallazza, a wetland with typical characteristics. Inside, on one of the pools of water that compose it, you can see many varieties of water lilies, as well as frogs, turtles and various types of birds, such as herons and coots.what to see and what to do in MOLINELLA - parachuting
